(This was written yesterday, when I first got here.) So I made it. Amazingly. I really can't believe it. I am right now sitting in a sitting room (of all places). This room has a view that makes me think of Jane Austen, walls the color of sunshine, two bookcases (built into the wall, and filled with books), and a ceiling that belongs in an old Victorian house. Seriously. I cannot believe I get to live here for four months. My window over looks our little patio--I can see a tree and a Narnia light post. All the people I have met so far have been amazing; I've never been around this many people who share the same passion for literature that I do. But, as this is going to be a rather short post (I think it's... 7 am Chicago time...), I will let you all know about a few interesting tidbits.
1. British Airways is awesome. Get ready for this--I watched Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, White Collar, and Friends. And then I had lasagna, a salad (with mozzarella balls, what what?), a roll, red wine, and some cheesecake thing for dessert. Now, I realize that this is not high class fair, but for airplane food, it rocked my world.
2. Just in traveling from Heathrow to Bath, I have seen a Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Subway, and Dominoes. I won't have to go far for American food.
3. I will not lie. When I was low enough to the ground in England (and could see the lights of the houses), I pretended I was flying on a broom with Harry. Although admittedly I was very glad that I was in a nice warm plane and not roughin it on a broom.
4. I felt like a three year old, with my face pushed up against the window glass, so I could see the cars driving on the wrong side of the road from the airplane. This amused me immensely.
5. This feature, however, can be quite frightening when on a bus. I jumped more than once because I thought we were going to run into a car. Or two. Or three.
6. A lot of people have the glass room in the back of their houses like the Dursleys did in The Prisoner of Azkaban movie.
7. I have a cough. BUT I will take the cough, as I no longer feel sick. I just cough a lot. We are soon going to venture out for coughdrops and perhaps some thai food.
So, that's pretty much it for now. I got here safely, and I can't wait to have adventures!!
hugs from hogwarts,
Liza
